Cat Ba island and Ha Long Bay 7-9.10

Cat Ba island is located about 200 km southeast from Hanoi to the coast. It took us about 5 hours with the combination of a bus, bus, ferry, bus - from Hanoi. However, the trip was definitely worth it.

There's a National Park at Cat Ba and then some nice beaches. Ha Long Bay is a UNESCO World Heritage site. It consist of thousands of limestone (kalkkikivi) islands and caves. There are also many floating fishing villages.

Below we've added a couple chosen photos (by clicking them you can see them larger). Make sure to check out the videos too!

Beach No. 2 at Cat Ba.
It was low-season (still 28 degrees) so we had the beach for ourselves.

CAT BA NATIONAL PARK - HIKING WITH A RANDOM LOCAL GUIDE

We hiked from Viet Hai village, where we stayed overnight at a bungalow hotel, to the entrance of Cat Ba National Park. Distance 14 km, time 3 hours.

View of the valley

Our local guide (from the Viet Hai village)

It was steep, muddy and slippery.
Our guide was wearing flip flops but he was still faster than us.
After the hike we were muddy but he was cleaner than at the start of the hike.
